Here’s a copy of a letter he wrote in 1781 (sent to me by Vince O’Grady). He was obviously working in India, and in touch with his Hardy cousins and with Thomas Boileau, his cousin.

My Dear Cousin,
as I do not know how soon the Swallow Packet now under dispatch may sail I sit £255 down to acknowledge the receits of your letter of the 26 Dec & to assure you that I will do everything in my power to promote your brother Peters views in this Country. tho I sincerely wish he had come out in some appointment for as affairs are now situated in India very little is to be hoped for without one. I have the pleasure to tell you that he is safe arrived in Calcutta and in the house of an cousin Tom Boileau who is doing very well in the Law line - I have wrote to him to come here as soon as he can with convenience & when I have the pleasure to see him we will consult together how to proceed & let you know the results. my family write in affectionate love & best wishes to you & yours & I remain
