Notes for Harold John Graham
According to Anne (the granddaughter of Harold):

“Very soon after the first son died [first son of Henry Davenport Graham and Sophia], they had a second, my grandfather. They were so upset they really didn’t much care about the new arrival. He [Harold John] was never very strong, destined for the Indian Civil Service-----I think, it became obvious he wouldn’t be able to cope with the climate. He was sent on a long sea voyage for his health. this was his first voyage to Australia. I’m on shaky ground here, but I understand he then married unsuitably , in England. They had a son, William, who they left behind in the care of the family solicitors. William died. They were boating on the Tasman strait when a squall blew up, and the wife was drowned . The poor young widower was taken up by a Mrs  Allan, who had two daughters, unmarried. One of them,Agnes was apparently the prettiest girl in Melbourne. Mrs Allan came from Scotland originally. Agnes had fallen love with someone totally unsuitable, a rake who drank. This was stamped on. So Agnes was in her late 20’s  and her mother was getting worried. I’m not sure when Harold and  Agnes were married, but Aunt Iona was born in 1892 at Double  Bay. Aunt Nancy, (Anna Katharine Florence) was next in 1895. then young Henry came 10 months later. He was killed in the first world war.  My father was Charles Edmond Allan, born in 1900. Harold was a brilliant artist, as was his father.”
