[C-D, XIV, 135]. Seigneur du Viala, de Cornus, de Saint-Veran. Rendered homage on the 7th of September, 1428, to Jean d’Armagnac, Vicomte de Creissels, for the lands of Saint-Veran. On 4th February, 1441, he bought from Bertrand de Vissec, some dependencies of Saint-Veran.
According to [PL]
[46], Raymond was the doctor to Comte d’Armagnac and was ennobled in 1439. As seems to have been very common (for instance, the Boileau family did the same thing, as did the de Pierre family), it’s almost certain that the traditional ancestry of the family was fabricated to hide their non-noble origins. Judging by the information in [C-D] it seems almost certain that Raymond purchased his lands and title, and that his forebears were not ennobled.
