Her birthdate is approximate, from her father’s death certificate.

According to Mum:
“Married John Donaldson in 24 July, 1873. Probably in Dunedin. They had Ada and Milly, two daughters. They owned the Excelsior Hotel for a while. Gummy used to be taken up to visit Ada and Milly, up High St., two maiden aunts. They were a couple of old tricks. When over seventy they set up a shirt-making business that went rather well.”

According to their membership cards in the Otago Settlers Museum, they were called Elizabeth and Amelia, and died unmarried.
