Notes for Elizabeth Newington
There is some confusion over the wife of this Richard Beale. For a long time I thought it was Elizabeth Henden, but it now appears that Elizabeth Henden married a different (related) Richard Beale, but in the same year. Elizabeth Henden and the other Richard Beale apparently had two sons only, Charles and John.

The monumental inscription in Biddenden church [740] just says that Richard Beale’s wife was Elizabeth, without giving her maiden name. However, Berry’s Pedigrees [92] shows Newington as the wife, and a number of reliable researchers have seen the marriage entry in the parish register of Wadhurst church. The marriage of Richard Beale (the other one) and Elizabeth Henden is in the parish register of Biddenden church, also in 1705, but in January.

Geoff West writes:
“..........I had another look at Richard Beale's will ... -as you say it refers to his wife as Elizabeth Beale throughout also the MI in Biddenden churchyard does not give a surname. The dates on the MI seem to tie up closer to the Newington side however.
The LDS site gives Richard's birth as 29 May 1683 and his parents as John Beale and Joanna Nepecker. The Biddenden parish register entry for Richard Beale that I found gives his baptism on 18 October 1668 as follows "Richard ye sonn of William Beale & Elizabeth his wife was borne the 9th day ". This makes him 89 years old at his death on 10th November 1757 which is the age given on the MI. Also Elizabeth's baptismal entry in the Wadhurst parish register on 12 May 1680 reads "Baptized Elizabeth daughter of Mr. Samuel and Elizabeth Newington "This would make her 84 if she died on 28 June 176(?4).The MI says 8(?1).Elizabeth Henden born 27 June 1690 would only have been in her 70's.
Another clue is that one of the sons is named Seaman (a name that continues to be used in succeeding generations) and that would indicate a descent from Simon Seaman which Richard ( who marries Elizabeth Newing ton) has and Richard( who marries Elizabeth Henden) does not.”

I agree that there’s little doubt that my Richard Beale married a Newington, not a Henden.
Notes for Richard (Spouse 1)
Of Biddenden. His will [741] mentions only his son, and some son-in-law James Haffenden he really didn’t like at all. Not at all. He keeps on harping on about it.
