Notes for Gertrude Norgrove
Lived in Wellington. 9 children – 7 boys – 2 girls. Visited Kate and Charlie and her children with Valerie and Kate and had the more-ish coconut ice. Eldest, John, Manager of Wisemans Saddle Shop in Auckland. One boy died about 9.
Kate’s account is not clear, but one descendant, a Gertrude Dempsey, wrote The Little World of Stewart Island, published in 1964 by AH and AW Reed, Wellington. She also wrote a number of other books about Stewart Island it seems. You can even still buy them.
According to Maron Dempsey, the G-granddaughter of Gertrude, she was born on the 18th of October, 1844. I don’t have independent confirmation of either date.
Notes for Joe (Spouse 1)
Saddler, according to the Nelson Examiner’s report of his marriage (3 May, 1862 was the date of the report).
[113] In 1889 he was living in Wellington, in College St, according to the marriage notice of his son, Walter Norgrove.
