Plaque in Hayton church Why a photo of this? Well, she was the daughter of Richard Graham of Stonehouse and his wife Mary Graham of Edmond Graham. Grahams up the wazoo. Therefore a cousin of mine, many times removed. First cousin, five times removed, to be exact.

Roll of Honour From inside Hayton church. Note the John Davenport Graham on the list.
|
Plaque on outside of Hayton church Richard Graham of Stonehouse, Mary Graham of Edmond Castle, and two of their Ross grandchildren who died very young.

GEC house by church 1 The house by Hayton church owned and used by the Grahams.
|
GEC house by church 2 A view of the house by Hayton church where the Grahams would stay, to be closer to the church. How pious of them.
|
Stonehouse entrance No Stonehouse mansion any more, just this gate to a farm. How dull.

Gelt Hall Aunt Nona lived at Gelt Hall for a long time, I believe. One of that lot of Aunts, anyway. Gelt Hall was an old house in that area, appearing in a map of 1710. There was clearly some close connection with Edmond Castle, but I don't know anything more.

Edmond Castle We're pretty sure this is a really old picture of Edmond Castle, maybe a Daguerreotype. You can make out the distinctive tower (in the right place) and the shape of the windows. I have the original, which was found at old Granny's, after Pop died.

Rose Cottage 1832 I think the inscription says "Rose Cottage, E. Bourne [i.e., Eastbourne], Oct, 1832"
John Graham and his wife Caroline Curteis lived at Rose Lodge from 1833 on, but this may have been different from Rose Cottage. Certainly, a letter that E.J. Curteis wrote to his granddaughter in 1827 says "Mr. [?] is at Rose Cottage but the lodge is unlet." This implies that there was a Rose Cottage and a Rose Lodge.

Graham/Davenport Arms From Patrick Baty. A bookplate of Elizabeth Susanna Graham nee Devonport (1764-1844), my 4G Grandmother. She was quite a well-known author in her day. Note how the Graham escallops are in bend, which is surprising.

Anne Margaret Graham (1801-1882). Married Edward Polhill. Painted pictures of Edmond Castle of which I have photographs only.

Robert Graham Polhill Plaque in Hayton church (a previous photo):
“In memory of ROBERT GRAHAM POLHILL, Lieutenant in her Majesty’s 95th regiment, who fell in front of his regiment defending the colours at the battle of Alma. September 20th 1854, aged 26. In this memorable action the 95th was most conspicuous, and its loss enormous. Lieutenant Polhill was the second son of Edward Polhill, esqre, of Brighton, and of Anne Margaret, the youngest daughter of the late Thomas Graham, Esqre, of Edmond Castle, Cumberland, and great grandson of Nathaniel Polhill, of Howbury Esqre, M.P.”

Painting of Edmond Castle "View of Edmond Castle". Watercolour attributed to A.M. Graham, probably Ann Margaret, daughter of Thomas Graham and Elizabeth Davenport. Sold by Lunds Auctioneers and Appraisers, for $100 Canadian dollars, in 2002 (?). If anyone knows where these are, I'd pay ten times as much to get hold of these.
It's clear where this view is from. From the opposite side of the main entrance, looking back at the house. You can see the chapel window clearly, and the drawing room window to the right.

It's not so clear which view this is, or even if the painting is of the main house. I can't tell.
