Lucknow from the hills as you go over the back. On the other side of the house is Aroha's Hill, where Mum used to climb when she was a kid. The Dollars lived on the other side of Aroha's Hill.

No idea what the occasion was, but that is Kate at the back, 2 from right. See how someone has scrawled "MUM" on her. Others unknown.

Kate Neal (Mum's maternal grandmother) and her car. Kate never drove. Ian Melville also sent me a copy of this photograph. On the back of his copy is written (in Kate's handwriting) "Taken on Wainui Beach, Gisborne May 1942". And just look at how Kate is dressed up. That was typical of her, to be dressed to the nines even for a beach trip.

Kate and my sister Elizabeth, on Kate's 90th birthday. This picture was in the Otago Daily Times. I remember it well. The dress was mauve.

Kate again, all dressed up and set to go. Somewhere. Black and gold, and very spectacular. Mum still has the little drawstring bag from this ensemble.

Kate Edith Neal (nee Norgrove), Mum's maternal grandmother, sitting at our dining room table in Cliffs Rd. This is how I remember her, in her blue paisley dress. Mum and Dad bought her that silver link necklace.

Freda and Kate, striding along very purposefully. Some Candid Camera thing, where a photographer on the street would just take your photo and then hope you bought a copy.

Granny Norgrove?
Granny Norgrove?
NOT Granny Norgrove (on the verandah at Lucknow.) Mum wasn't sure, but Joan McNaught says it isn't. So it's probably Mum's other grandmother, Granny Neal (Selina Busch).

From Ian Melville. Full version of my abbreviated copy. Ian writes "Your Grandmother (Freda Alice Neal) and my father (one of the Melville boys) as babies. I think that it is your grandmother on the left. My father was born on 27 03 1907 and died 01 10 1963."

Edith Norgrove, Kate Neal (daughter), Freda McPherson (granddaughter), and Valerie and Rosalie (the younger one, my mother, Woo Hoo!). Joan McNaught writes: "I remember the day the photo was taken, Aunt Kate arrived with her family and the photographer and told Grannie (Edith Norgrove) she was to have photo taken with 4 generations - Grannie was most unhappy, did not want her photo taken - it came out well, and I can still see the photo in my minds eye."
