Yes you're right about Col Thomas Hawkins. He married Maria Magdalena Droz in 1791. She died in 1799. He then married Elizabeth Friell in 1800. One doesn't want the bed to get too cold does one! That Thomas Hawkins was the father of John Abraham Francis. He died in 1818 and I'm enclosing here a copy of his obit from Gentlemen’s Magazine:
Lately in Camden-place, Col. Thomas Hawkins of the Bengal Army. He served his country in India through an honourable career of 36 years with courage, zeal, and judgement. Temperate, but firm in command, he was beloved and respected by a highly disciplined corps, of which he was long at the head. A small service of plate presented to him by his brother officers, evinced of their affection and esteem at the moment of their separation. In command of a small army in the ceded country of Bundlecund, where, in the transfer of a people from the government of one state to that of another, the jealousy and ambition of a high-minded nobility could not be reconciled without extreme difficulty: by his spirited and judicious conduct he speedily conciliated all parties, and established tranquillity and order. To his widow and family his death is an irreparable loss.

Another Colonel Hawkins married a Droz cousin. This is quite a coincidence, so I suspect a connection between the Colonels, or maybe even an identity. I suspect the Droz was the first wife, and the Friell the second.
